Importance of Travel Insurance

One of the most important things that should be remembered by travelers before they go onboard is to secure travel insurance. What is this insurance and what is its importance? Is this really needed? What can it do for travelers?

Natural disasters and catastrophes do happen. No matter how advanced technology is, there are still many cases wherein experts do not foresee the disasters that may strike while a plane is on air or a ship is currently sailing. Illnesses are also sometimes unpredictable. There are a lot of times when a traveler needs medical attention either due to a minor illness or a major one.

Aside from natural disasters and illnesses, man-made crises can also be experienced. When a traveler losses his or her passport and other travel documents, especially when this person is out of his or her own country, he or she will be forced to wait for a long period of time for everything to be processed and settled. With all these, since no one knows when a disaster, illness or man-made difficulties will hit, a traveler should always be ready and equipped with safety elements, such as travel insurance.

Financial Travel Insurance

Travel InsuranceTravel insurance is a kind of insurance that is designed or made to basically cover the traveler’s medical expenses, financial default and other losses sustained while he or she is traveling. No matter where the person will travel, either domestically or internationally, he or she is qualified to acquire this insurance for his or her own protection.

The coverage of travel insurance varies, depending on its provider. Aside from those mentioned above, this insurance may also cover dental expenses, emergency evacuation, trip cancellation or interruption, accidental injury or death expenses, overseas funeral expenses, damages, lost or stolen baggage, legal assistance and many more.

Temporary Travel Insurance

A traveler may opt to get temporary travel insurance. This insurance is usually acquired or bought at the time when the traveler books his or her trip. Temporary travel insurance only covers the dates of travel of the person who acquired it. For instance, a traveler books a flight from 25 August 2011 to 30 August 2011 and buys this insurance. This means that the traveler is insured for only 6 days, which is exactly from the date he or she leaves, which is 25 August 2011 to the time he or she returns, which is 30 August 2011.

On the other hand, when a person is frequently traveling within the country or abroad, he or she is mostly recommended to avail “multi-trip” travel insurance. Unlike temporary travel insurance, “multi-trip” covers an unlimited number of trips within a given period such as for 6 months, a year or more. With this kind of insurance, a traveler can save more money, especially when he or she travels a lot.

With all this information, it can be safely concluded that travel insurance is really handy, especially for those who frequently travel. Although some may think twice of availing such insurance, since it is not compulsory, it will be worth it if life is on the line.
